What is a trailer?
A travel trailer, also known as a trailer coach, caravan, camper, camper trailer, camper van, or mobile home, is an unpowered vehicle that is towed behind another vehicle, such as a car, to be used as accommodation or extra storage. Unlike a motorhome or campervan, which have their own engine and drive, a travel trailer is a passive entity that relies on the towing vehicle for mobility.
Travel trailers come in a variety of sizes and designs, ranging from small “teardrop” trailers under 5 meters in length, to large “bunkhouse” trailers more than 10 meters long. They often include amenities such as beds, kitchenettes, bathrooms, and entertainment facilities, making them a convenient and comfortable option for both short and long road trips, camping vacations, and nomadic lifestyles.
When choosing a travel trailer, it’s important to consider the size and towing capacity of the vehicle that will be used to tow it. The trailer must be properly matched to the tow vehicle to ensure safe travel, as towing a trailer can significantly affect a vehicle’s handling, braking ability, and fuel efficiency.
